Delivery to King’s College results in £21,000 compensation for accident at work victim

A delivery driver for Leicester-based Steris Solutions Limited has received £21,000 compensation following an incident at King’s College Hospital, London.

30-year-old Mr Ticlea, a delivery driver for Steris Solutions Limited, experienced a harrowing workplace accident while delivering sterilised medical instruments to King’s College Hospital on May 21, 2021.

Amid windy conditions, the shutter on his overloaded van malfunctioned, causing it to fall and strike him on the head with significant force. This resulted in a range of physical and psychological injuries, including head trauma, blurred vision, headaches, and anxiety.

Following the incident, Mr Ticlea was promptly admitted to the Accident and Emergency Department of King’s College Hospital, where he underwent specialised medical care, including a CT scan. Despite treatment and ongoing care, Mr. Ticlea continues to suffer from persistent headaches, sensory olfactory sensations, and disturbances in his neck, shoulders, and arms. The circumstances of the accident also led to anxiety, depression, flashbacks, sleep disturbances and memory recollection issues.

Employment Terminated

The aftermath of the accident compounded additional stressors, including a tense work environment that ultimately led to the termination of Mr Ticlea’s employment, significantly impacting Mr Ticlea’s mental and emotional well-being, particularly as he transitioned into a new phase of his life as a father.

Mr Ticlea’s journey to recovery required ongoing medical consultations, pain management, and attempts to mitigate the psychological impact of the accident. However, the lingering effects of the incident, combined with the stress of unemployment and newfound parental responsibilities created a complex and challenging road ahead.
